National Design Manager

We are looking for the ideal candidate to be our National Manager for our Sprinkler Designers, coast to coast!  Are you that person?

As the National Design Manager you will ensure compliance with codes and standards and ensure design excellence.  Ideally, we would prefer our candidate to be located in Mississauga, but are flexible on location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall management of Fire Protection design with indirect responsibility for national design staff.  Your role will be to guide a team of Fire Protection Designers with varying level of experience by working with local Design Team Leads
  • Develop design procedures, techniques, best practices and operational tools to implement across all designers
  • Develop and coordinate design strategies with senior design and operations management.
  • Review quality of design work to ISO standards.  Develop individual training programs and development assignments as appropriate.
  • Coordinate workload management across regions, as needed.
  • Review design quality, including drawings, hydraulic calculations, layout, material listing, code compliance, installation efficiency, etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge re: NFPA standards, relevant building codes, construction practice, design tools & resources, and material/suppliers/technology.
  • Maintain leading edge knowledge re: AutoCAD and other applicable computer software/hardware/printers and plotters

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Engineering & Technology or equivalent, preferably from the Seneca Fire Protection Technology program
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the field of fire protection design with a focus on fire sprinkler and special hazards.
  • Extensive Autocad/Hydracad experience
  • Level four NICET Certification is preferred
  • Strong technical background in design, project management, materials, fabrication
  • Knowledge of project flow and ability to assist with any phase throughout a project – estimating, design, calculations, listing, material ordering
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to work with customers, field crew and colleagues at varying levels of the organization
  • Preferential consideration will be given to those candidates with a strong background or experience level with Building Integration Modeling (BIM) relating to sprinkler design
